Workshops and Thesis Support Programs
The Graduate Writing Center offers a variety of workshops and programs throughout the year. During the summer, we offer various dissertation "boot camps" for graduate students working on dissertation proposals and dissertations. For master's thesis writers, we offer a master's thesis mentoring program. See our web page on thesis support for more information.
Writing Consultation Appointments
The GWC offers FREE appointments with friendly, experienced writing consultants to all registered UCLA graduate and professional school students. Consultation appointments are interactive, collaborative sessions. Writing consultants are happy to work with you on issues ranging from organization and argumentation to grammatical issues, but they are not proofreaders or editors. Our goal is to help you become an effective writer in your field.

How Do I Schedule an Appointment?
Appointments are limited to one appointment per week scheduled in advance, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. You may schedule appointments using the Handshake appointment system. Please consult our GWC policies page for more information concerning our policies.
For in-person appointments, please bring one printout of your writing project to the appointment (one printout required, two recommended).
If you need to cancel your appointment, you must do so within the Handshake system the day before in order to avoid a late cancellation penalty.
What Happens at a Writing Consultation Appointment?
You will have 50 minutes to discuss your writing with the graduate writing consultant at your appointment. The writing consultant will ask you questions about your writing goals and concerns. The writing consultant may not be able to read your entire draft, so please indicate which sections to focus on during your appointment. Come prepared to work actively on your writing.
