How We Started
The Graduate Writing Center is an initiative of the Graduate Students Association, funded by a GSA fee referendum, managed by Student Affairs, and overseen by the Graduate Writing Center Oversight Committee. Learn about us.
GWC Writing Consultants
Our writing consultants come from a variety of fields and are trained to work with graduate students from all disciplines. Graduate students may find it helpful to meet with the writing consultants closest to their fields, but thisis not required. Our consultants do not proofread/edit; they work interactively with graduate students to improve their writing skills. All of our writing consultants have been trained to work with ESL students. Visit Consultants for their bios.
GWC Consulting Philosophy
In appointments graduate students may work on almost any kind of writing related to their academic work and professional development. Graduate students should come prepared to prioritize what parts of a document they will focus on, especially for longer texts. Our consulting philosophy outlines how our writing consultants work with graduate students. Read more about our philosophy.
Please visit the policies web page for more information about Graduate Writing Center policies on appointments and usage.
The Graduate Writing Center offers a variety of workshops on both general writing issues and specialized topics, such as dissertation and thesis writing. We hold targeted writing workshops for graduate students in the areas of Humanities & Arts, Social Sciences, and Sciences & Engineering. We also publicize research workshops offered by the UCLA libraries. For more information about our programs and workshops visit, Workshops.
Email Announcements, Publicity, and Flyers
In addition to our web page listing programs and workshops from above, we send announcements by email to departmental SAOs and graduate counselors. If you are not on our email list, please contact us at email@example.com. We also produce flyers on our workshops, programs and services that we archive on the website for use by departments and other services on campus. We encourage departments to use them in orientation and information packets for new and prospective students.
